The Deputy Chief Justice opened a Court of Appeal session in Masaka at the Masaka High Court.

Other stakeholders from the ODPP, Prisons, Police and political leaders commended the Judges in Masaka, for all judicial officers' tireless efforts.

The DCJ, noted the congestion in prisons and that the Judiciary administration had increased the number of sessions for the High Court and facilitation for the same. That it would be important to encourage suspects at whatever level to take advantage of measures such as Plea Bargain. That such initiatives would help a lot in the reduction of backlog, congestion in prisons, and free up much needed resources.

That there was also need to help improve the capacity of different institutions such as prisons that were mostly built in the early 1950s and 60s, plus augmenting the number of prosecutors to match the recruitment done by the Judiciary.

That Masaka, was amongst those to be considered for the construction of new Court of Appeal circuits.
